Get us off of foreign oil now!
We all know it. Foreign oil has threatened our security and given some of our enemies a strong hold on our economy. Imagine no longer worrying about the turmoil in the middle east. Imagine never having to go to war and shed the blood of our children to protect oil interests here. We need wind power and solar power now.
HOW ABOUT THIS?
I propose that we figure the total cost to get the American electric supply from alternative, clean fuels like solar and wind. Then allow PEOPLE to invest in the purchase of these systems by "buying in" to the projects with as little as $ 100.00. Most utilities are regulated to allow for costs and some profit margin to pay shareholders. Why not do the same here. Figure the cost of the startup, the cost to supply, maintain and repair and add 11% to be paid back annually to the investors that hold "shares" in the start up. Make the federal government stream line the process
to get this going. I would guess that within a few months, we would have the money to get the system going so we could work on its complete implementation within five years. This would allow the country to move towards complete energy independence quicker and also allow the people a chance to add to their portfolio's with a safe investment that could help offset...at least a little bit...the beating that wall street just handed us. Washington has shown that when we hold their feet to the fire, they will do something. I think that we should make them do something about the energy problem. Again, we owe it to our children and their children to stop wrecking the planet, the budget and their future.
