I was, up until now, a fiscal conservative. I believed that if you work hard, you can succeed in America. Now I am a liberal democrat that sees the need and wants bigger government. I am 54 years old and have worked since I was 14. I have a college degree and I got laid off over a year ago from a good job that I had for 29 years. The business is now closed and bankrupt. I cannot find a job and am worried that my unemployment will run out. I was making $58,000 a year with overtime and had a modest home, a wife and two great kids. I have lost my house and my wife and I now live with my son. The only work I get is as a temp and it is not even consistent. We have no health benefits and have been dipping into what is left of my retirement to pay my wifes medical bills. The company I worked for was run into the ground by owners that were socking away hundreds of thousands a year. They are living fine. I have even been told that with my age and the current situation, my chances of employment are slim to none. I keep trying and when I'm not working as a temp, I am out applying for jobs. The republicans seem to not know who the little people are and how bad we are hurting. I feel that I deserve better. It's not that I want handouts, I just want a little fairness.

HOW ABOUT THIS?

Everyone that is making over $ 25,000 each pays a surcharge in income tax. The rich would pay

more and we could give jobs to people rebuilding our infrastructure and working in the alternative energy field to get us off of oil. I am willing to work and work hard. I just ask for health care and a decent living. The rich people only watch out for themselves and we have seen it with this whole bailout thing. I feel like garbage every day that I get up and can't work. My son claims that he doesn't mind but come on, he should ne with his family now and not helping me. I know a lot of readers will tell me that I am wrong, I used to say and feel that way too. I apologize. There are no jobs and right now, for me, there isn't much hope. I am walking a mile in the other shoes and it stinks. We need to fund jobs programs and get this country working again.
